I was tasked with creating a parallax ice material, and I saw it as a great opportunity to push my technical skills further. My goal wasn’t just to produce something visually appealing — I wanted a material that would hold up in a real environment or across a landscape. That meant ensuring the details read clearly at large scales while keeping tiling to a minimum.
Parallax offset mapping was used to give the surface cracks a sense of depth and to introduce a subtle, misty translucency to the ice. To showcase the material in context, I applied it to a landscape and built a small arctic environment around it. This helped establish the atmosphere while also providing realistic lighting and reflections to bring out the material’s finer details
